2006.01.13: Reunion in sight?

As you know, Contax/Yashica mount Carl Zeiss T* lenses can be adapted to Canon EOS mount but can't be adapted to Nikon F-mount due to differences in lens flange distances. The Canon EOS lens flange distance is sufficiently shorter than the C/Y mount lens flange distance thus allowing one to design and fabricate an adapter to mount the Zeiss lens and still focus to infinity. The F-mount lens flange distance is shorter . . . so short that you'd need an adapter with literally negative thickness to mount a C/Y mount Zeiss lens and maintain its ability to focus to infinity. My big question is [when] will these lenses be available:

Makro-Planar 60/2.8 1:1
Planar 50/1.4
Distagon 21/2.8
Planar 50/0.7 . . . just kidding

I wouldn't mind seeing the G-system range finder reborn as a digital-ready platform.

Here's another why I should choose Canon over Nikon. I have lots of quality glass from the Zeiss works. It would be interesting to see how the Canon full frame sensor copes performancewise with the Zeiss lenses and the convertor.

I think you're right in part. I had a Canon 1Ds for a while . . . never owned any Canon glass. Adapted my Zeiss C/Y mount glass to it. Only pain was that the lenses only work in aperture stop down . . . ideally, I'd have a Canon FF for use with my lenses with adaptation and then shoot other systems if I need AF or wished to use OEM lenses. Still very happy with Nikon zooms. =)

DP Review's most recent news article about this lens series at the time of this comment's posting reveals that in addition to the first two lenses which have been confirmed for production (50/1.4 and 85/1.4 Planars) there will be a Makro-Planar which I believe will be the 60/2.8 1:1. The size and proportions of the lens look right. It's the lens nearest to the middle of this photograph: http://dpreview.com/news/0601/06011801zeisslensesnikon.asp . What else is interesting to note about this photo is that the serial number for the Planar 85/1.4 is 00000010. Probably one of those lenses headed straight to a crystal display case. The left most lens in the photo, to my untrained eyes, appears to be a wide angle of some sort . . . likely the 35/1.4.
